Super Llama: Llamas are awesome! (17)
Halløj alle mennesker derude! (sorry non-danish people, the site I am referring to is in Danish) Min roomies gode veninde Shushanik er ved at blive sendt ud af landet.

I knew it was going to happen someday: I would end up actually making a journal. I'm actually surprised I've suddenly gotten views, favourites and stuff, and I feel all "awwww" everytime someone comments... Makes me so sad that I can't draw, only sew and stuff like that. Wellwell. Had a nice Christmas Eve? I hope you did, and I certainly had quite a nice evening :D I'm really excited about new year's eve, because I am going to go to http://sizliz.deviantart.com/'s house with some other people. It's going to be very nice, as I haven't seen many of the cosplayers since october. Long time ._.

Hey. So your signature says your a proud dane, and that you want to talk to people from elsewhere, and that you can take critique.

Also, you look pretty cool, and I was wondering if we could become friends. no pressure. xD

So the question Ive been wanting to ask you is: How can you be a proud Dane? I dont mean how can Danish people be proud, Denmark is awesome, but... how can you be proud of your nationality? It is a concept I can hardly understand. I grew up feeling at home in three different countries, and experiencing some of the childhood experiences of all of them, I cannot understand the idea of Patriotism. Why be proud of the fact that a group of people you were born into banded together a couple of centuries ago and hunted away all the people they didn't want on a specific piece of land that they then decided to call theirs.

Not that patriots feel proud of being descendant from a specific tribe of people, they feel proud of living on ground that happens to bare the same name as the ground a couple of km away on which other people they are not definitely related lived, who then became well known for accomplishments.

I don't meant to be annoying, but... you said you were proud of being danish, and I was wondering if you could perhaps explain how you can?
I don't really know how to explain it, but it's more like... hmm... It's acruallt a really good question.

I am proud of being a part of the people that is Danish, even though I might pretty much dislike every Danish politician, and even though we have lots of problems in Denmark, and even though we are becoming more and more liberalistic and americanized every day.
It is not so much because I say "We have a queen" or "we have the oldest national flag in the world" or "we were once vikings".
It is because I am proud to be a part of the country where, given the problems we have with racism and things like that, that often, when I compare my country to other countries, I see that it is maybe not as bad as I thought it was.
I am proud to be living in a country that has free health care and education.
I don't know if this is sufficent, because you asked a very good question.
I am not proud of everything about Denmark, but I love being Danish.
I want to travel the whole world, maybe live a year here, a year there, but I believe, that I will always return to Denmark.

I might have to rephrase my tag, it really does make me sound pretty patriotic.
1) you have not changed your tag.
2) sorry for not replying in ages
3) so basically, you feel at home in the geographical location of Denmark, and the rest of your feelings for the place are a convoluted mass of vague media instilled notions. Have I assessed that correctly?
Now I got it, I had completely forgotten the context!

Yeah, I still haven't changed my tag, I am not very active on DA. But I really still should. hmm..
As for the not replying thing, yeah, I had forgotten about this too.
3) uhm... not exactly. I believe it is more the basic system (the general welfare state, high taxes, free universities, all those things) I like. I do try to change our system for the better, being part of youth politics for the more socialist part of our government, for example, but I like that we, compared to most other places in the world, generally have a state with common welfare for most.
I also like the fact that, because Denmark is so small, we have to be very internationally orientated, so many study abroad for some time, and we are taught English from a low age.

I can give you a much longer list, I think, and also a great list of the things I dislike. But generally, when comparing Denmark to other countries which are more liberal, I feel like I fit in here, what with us being somehow socialist. A little bit at least.
